Winter Checklist

The Winter season is here and the snow has arrived.  It is a good idea to get together a few items in order.  I will go over a few categories of items that it would be a good idea to have prepared.

Communication

Communication is necessary during times of harsh weather.  It is important to be able to contact emergency services when needed.  Here are a few items related to communication that would be helpful during a weather related emergency.

Phone, radio, television, internet access, list of family phone numbers, access to storm warnings, list of emergency phone numbers, phone charger

Heating

During the winter it is important to stay warm.  During times of emergency, heat becomes a precious commodity.  Here are some items that will help you survive a snow storm while staying warm inside. 

Blankets, sleeping bags, coats, heating source, fire extinguisher, lighting source

Nutrition

Food and water are necessary for any animal’s survival.  Humans are no exception.  Having lasting food and water is of the utmost importance.  Rations are critical when cutoff from the outside world.  The following list contains a few items relating to nutrition. 

Large amounts of drinking water, bottled water, canned non-perishable goods, can opener, other non-perishables, medication

Transportation

Regardless of the severe weather after a certain point, it will become necessary to go back into the open world.  This could be for food, water, medication, heating fuel, finding someone, etc.  Be prepared for this journey.  This list contains some items that would be helpful when making the journey by personal vehicle.
